The Emjoi Soft Caress Epilator is a great epilator for beginners. It doesn’t come with a boatload of confusing attachments and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. The instructions called to charge the epilator for 16 hours at first, but I only left mine on the charger for about 12 hours and it ran for long enough for me to get both of my legs, my face, my bikini area, and my underarms. Using it cordless is clearly easier for following the contours of your legs without worrying about getting tangled up, but it’s really nice that you can use the Emjoi Soft Caress when it is plugged in as well. I think it works much better operating on a full charge but it’s nice to know that I can get an epilation in even if I don’t have time to wait for it to charge.
The Emjoi Soft Caress is definitely a slower epilator than others I have encountered, which makes it a good starter product for anyone who is new to epilating or just curious about it. I used the massaging finger attachment on one of my legs and thought it was a nice feature but that it didn’t alter my experience enough to justify using it. I think it would make a novice feel more comfortable with the process and it definitely takes a little of the edge off, but as someone who is used to epilating I didn’t have much use for it. I used slow, circular movements and was impressed by the Emjoi Soft Caress’ ability to yank out even my shortest, finest hairs. It was definitely a slower process than I am used to, and I did find myself needing to go over the same areas twice, but for the power level of this epilator it gave me impressively smooth and hairless legs. My legs were slightly bumpy right after epilating, but after lotioning the irritation went away within an hour.
The Emjoi Soft Caress is a perfect size epilator for armpits and bikini area. Larger epilators can be tough to maneuver over sensitive spots, especially the underarms, which have a lot of curves and creases. The Soft Caress is small enough that it fits perfectly in your hand and you can target specific areas without pinching all the skin around it. Other epilators often come with precision or sensitive area caps, but in my experience these attachments are insufficient because they make it harder for you to actually get the head close enough to the hair to yank it out. The Emjoi’s size means it doesn’t need any extra attachments specifically for your sensitive areas, which is great! It’s especially good for beginners, who could just be flustered and confused by having so many attachment options. That being said, the slower speed of this Emjoi product makes the whole process a bit more painstaking. I would say that epilating my underarms and bikini area was about a 7 out of 10 on the pain scale. Both areas had some bumps and inflammation after, but I took an ibuprofen and applied some lotion and I felt I was bikini-ready by the end of the day.
The hardest spot for me to epilate with the Soft Caress was my upper lip. Because you need to keep the skin taut, it’s just a little tricky to hold the epilator and also pull your lip out. Still, the Emjoi’s size makes it perfect for this area and there was barely any irritation afterwards, so I’d say the Emjoi performed admirably for facial hair. The instructions do make it clear that the Emjoi is for individual facial hairs and not to use it on your whole face like an electric razor.
I’m not sure the Emjoi Soft Caress would hold up for someone with very thick, coarse hair. I have fine to normal body hair and it was fine for me, but I think anyone with an extreme amount of body hair, or with very coarse hair, might need something with more tweezers. The Emjoi Soft Caress could clearly handle that amount of hair, but it would probably just take too long and be too painful and would scare off someone who is new to the process.
The noise level of the Emjoi was very low. Probably because the “fast” speed is more equivalent to a high-powered epilator’s “slow” speed, but I liked that I could listen to the TV in the other room while I was epilating in the bathroom.
Cleaning the Emjoi was a breeze afterwards. Of course, when you’re epilating the hair kind of flies everywhere, but the cleaning pouch made cleaning the actual product really easy. I do like the way the product looks quite a bit; it’s a nice compact size and it has a clean, functional aesthetic that I really appreciate. The travel pouch it comes with is really nice too! I also liked the fact that it came with a loofah and that the instructions were very clear about exfoliating before starting the epilation process. It is so important and really makes all the differences, and it’s great that beginners would not have to learn that on their own. The clear, direct instructions were definitely a plus of the Emjoi Soft Caress. For a starter epilator, the instructions give you all the information you need to use it properly without overwhelming you with a whole textbook of do’s and don’ts.
I would definitely recommend the Emjoi Soft Caress to anyone new to epilating who wants a simple, reliable, easy-to-use epilator that will get them accustomed to the process. The simple design, clear instructions, and basic functionality makes it excellent for a beginner. Though it does take longer than more advanced epilators, it performs very well for its power level and gets more hair than I would expect. I really liked that the only attachment was the massaging fingers, which weren’t useful to me but would make a novice more comfortable and help with the initial pain without being too confusing.
